Toyota Corolla 2019 Reviewr05/06/2019
A good car with a lot of features, the 2019 Toyota Corolla is unchanged from previous model years. Even though it is known as a not very exciting car, this year the Corolla features a new hatchback edition that is more of a sports car with impressive technology and a strong engine. It’s also a great value with incredible reliability rating and quite a few safety features.
For those that are done with driving a used car and are interested in a well-built car that is compact and loaded with features, you can’t go wrong with the 2019 Corolla. Consumers will find the Corolla’s sedan is a little more sedate while the hatchback has a more powerful engine. The design of the basic Corolla hasn’t been changed since 2014 so consumers may find the hatchback to be more exciting.
The 2019 Corolla includes some of the latest Toyota technology including Apple CarPlay as well as a large collection of advanced safety features. All of this is available standard in the hatchback model, but the Apple CarPlay is not available in the sedan model.
With the base level trim, you get adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, a multimedia touchscreen measuring 6.1 inches, automatic climate control, steel wheels measuring 16 inches, and LED headlights. With the XSE model, you get a sportier model that features a heated front seat, a power adjustable driver’s seat with eight positions, SiriusXM satellite radio, a multimedia screen measuring 7 inches, a rear spoiler, alloy wheels measuring 17 inches, and a front fascia painted a sporty gloss black. Both come with the Toyota Safety Sense package of driver assist safety features.
The 2019 Corolla seats five people in both versions. Although it is not any roomier than the hatchback, the sedan does have larger interior dimensions for a vehicle this size with more front and rear legroom than you will find in a Toyota Camry. The hatchback is a little more cramped in the back, even for a compact vehicle, although the front seat area is comfortable and spacious.
Featuring an upscale feel, the Corolla hatchback uses quality materials and a clean layout. In comparison, the sedan continues to feature an interior from previous model years that uses some lower-grade materials giving it a lower quality feel.
With a much larger cargo space, the hatchback can expand up to 23.3 cubic feet when the back seat is folded down and 17.8 cubic feet with the seats up. The sedan comes with a small 13 cubic feet trunk, so if you are looking for a lot of cargo space, you should go with the hatchback.
Most of the Corolla models come with either a CVT or six-speed manual 1.8 liter I-4 engine with 132 horsepower. The LE Eco features 140 horsepower version of the same engine and backed with a CVT. The fuel economy of these vehicles ranges from 27/35 mpg city/highway for most of the models while the LE Eco gets 30/40 mpg.
Standard on the 2019 Corolla is the Toyota Safety Sense package. Included in the package is adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, lane departure alert plus lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking that includes pedestrian detection. It also received the NHTSA highest five-star overall safety rating, and also scored well in IIHS crash testing.
The 2019 Corolla also includes standard a multimedia touchscreen measuring 6.1 inches. There is also an option touchscreen measuring 7 inches that comes with SiriusXM satellite radio and SiriusXM’s navigation system. If you have a compatible iPhone, you also get Siri Eyes Free standard as well.
You will find the 2019 Corolla falling into the mid-$18,000 range for a compact, gas-fueled vehicle. The basic body style starts with an MSRP of $18,700 on the Corolla L for a low end, and the high end goes up to $22,880 for the Corolla XSE.
A little more expensive, the Corolla Hatchback has MSRPs that range from $19,990 on the Corolla Hatchback SE all the way up to $24,090 for the Corolla Hatchback XSE featuring a CVT. Always remember to check with your local dealership to see what kind of specials they are running.
Even though the 2019 Toyota Corolla isn’t that exciting, it is still a smart buy when you compare it to a Rav4 review or a Civic 2019. You get a lot of features for the price you pay, a certified reliability rating, and a comfortable ride which is often a lot better than buying a used car. If you are interested in the feel of a sports car, the new hatchback will give you that powerful engine with lots of tech features. This is a good car that gives you great gas mileage in a sensible and reliable vehicle.
